Building Relationships. Creating Solutions. Changing Lives

Tuesday, August 28 – Addis Ababa

When you step off the plane your senses respond to the smell of spices and smoke, you hear voices but do not comprehend, and you see subtle mannerisms, dress, and movement that tell you: I am in Africa!

There is the bustle of unorganized traffic, that weaves without structure, but still manages to move towards its destination with ease. The toot of a horn, the flash of high beams, all signal each with its own language that is foreign, but comprehensible; I am in Ethiopia!

The Yilma Hotel is close to the Airport and we think the office, but Gebe took us on a very round about way. There was construction on many roads and Dante’s car was close to the ground, so he was trying to take smooth streets. If these were smooth, then I can only imagine what he considers rough. The hotel is neat, clean, and reasonable. It has hot water, flushing toilets, was relatively quiet and had a warm bed. The temperature was about 55°F and wet in Addis.

The food was good and a bit too plentiful, especially after long inactivity and regular meals at 4 hour increments on Ethiopian Airlines. I now attempted rest for the start to the next busy day. It was to bed at 12:05 AM.
